Assessment of peri‐urban livestock producers’ willingness to pay for improved forages as cash crops

Abstract: Availability of quality feed is a major constraint for livestock production in Burkina Faso. Despite previous efforts to test improved forages at research stations to overcome the dry‐season feed gap, little has been done to promote them as cash crops that can contribute to meeting the growing feed demand in the country. This study was undertaken to evaluate the willingness to pay (WTP) for improved forage by livestock producers in the peri‐urban livestock production systems of Burkina Faso. A total of 202 liv… Show more

“…Thus, the African scientists A. Ouédraogo et al (2022) note that the production of improved fodder is a viable alternative to expensive ones. The study of the Ukrainian scientists V. Petrychenko et al (2021) is devoted to the formation of a market for high-protein fodder for farm animals in Ukraine in the context of European integration processes, as well as to the justification of the use of such fodder by Ukrainian producers.…”

“…Truncated regression of the normal distribution was performed to identify risk factors for Galla goat mortality. The truncated model was selected because sample truncation is a pervasive issue in quantitative animal sciences, particularly when using observational data such as the data employed in this study (Abot, 2020;Ouédraogo et al, 2022). Truncation reduces the variance compared with the variance in the untruncated (Heckman, 1979;Dongfang et al, 2017).…”
