Assessment of Relationship Between Serum Vitamin D Levels and Metabolic Syndrome Components in Hemodialysis Patients

Abstract: Aim: This study is aimed to evaluate the relationship between serum vitamin D levels and metabolic syndrome in hemodialysis patients. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted with participation of 80 patients undergoing hemodialysis for more than 6 months three times a week, aged > 18 years. Their height, dry weight, waist circumference were measured. Biochemical parameters such as serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D, lipid profile, and fasting blood glucose were analyzed. “…Vitamin D insufficiency is a frequent condition in healthy Egyptians [ 16 ]. Low levels of vitamin D are related to obesity, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, glucose intolerance, cardiovascular disease, and a high risk of metabolic syndrome [ 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 ]. Vitamin D has a crucial role in T2DM pathogenesis by regulating insulin receptor expression of genes and their secretion [ 21 ].…”
