Assessment of Selected Factors Influencing the Purchase of Electric Vehicles—A Case Study of the Republic of Croatia

Abstract: The use of electric vehicles and their adoption have become imperative due to the policies and goals to reduce harmful emissions emitted by fossil fuel vehicles. The adoption and acceptance of electric vehicles by the public may be determined by several factors, such as the price of the vehicles, the environmental and political costs of vehicle production, infrastructure availability, etc. However, given the diverse context of each country, different factors may have a different impact on customer attitudes. “…Sustainable urban systems, as well as smart urban systems, are the focus of more and more research. In [24], a methodology was developed for carrying out a comparison of transport modes within an urban context; in [25], a tool was developed for strategic development of urban mobility; in [26], the use of new technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain in the development of smart mobility was studied; in [27], an analysis was conducted of the adoption of electric vehicles as one of the forms of smart urban mobility in the Republic of Croatia, which the authors based on previous research on sustainable urban mobility [28]. The research shows a good basis for further consideration of urban mobility, as well as the development of sustainable urban mobility, which can then be used for further development of urban systems on the territory of the Republic of Croatia.…”

“…In recent years, the rapid development of industry made the problem of global energy shortage more prominent. In addition, rapid urbanization and increased fossil fuel consumption have led to excessive greenhouse gas emissions and environmental pollution, which pose a major threat to global energy efficiency [1,2]. According to the Paris agreement, the global temperature will increase by 3% in this century [3].…”

“…In this case, electric vehicles (EVs) are increasingly favored by the market for their energy-saving, clean, and environmentally friendly characteristics [4]. In addition, advances in battery technology, power grid management, and the urgent environmental need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions have led to a major shift toward the production of EVs [1]. Many countries have put forward the electric vehicle promotion goals and technology development strategies [5].…”
