Assessment of Some Biomarkers in Liver, Kidney and Stomach Following Pineapple Juice Administration

Abstract: Abstract. This study looked into the physiochemical assessment of kidney, liver and stomach following pineapple juice (PJ) administration in normal Wistar rats. Thirty-two young male Wistar rats weighing between 180 -200 g were used for this study. The juice was administered through oral cannula for 30 days. The animals were grouped into four (A-D). Group A received 3 ml of distilled water (Control), Group B received 3 ml/kg PJ, Group C received 6 ml/kg PJ administered at 3 ml twice daily and Group D received … Show more

“…Apple extract was a potent agonist for human natural killer (NK) cells and it enhanced phosphoantigen-induced γδ T cell expansion (Holderness et al, 2007) Lycopersicon esculentum Tomato aqueous extract blunted the production of pro-inflammatory mediators (cytokines and interleukins [TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-12]), in murine macrophages in vitro (Schwager et al, 2016) Ananas comosus pineapple juice significantly increased total white blood cells indices of wistar rats (Oyesola et al, 2016) Allium cepa Allium cepa extract significantly increased interleukin (IL)-4 and immunoglobulin E (IgE) in ovalbumin-sensitized rats) (Marefati et al, 2018 Ocimum gratissimum Flavonoid-rich fraction produced significant reduction in IL-1β, and TNF-α in vitro. (Ajayi et al, 2017) Andrographis paniculate A. paniculate ethanol extract stimulated immune response in mice (Nyeem Mannan et al, 2017)…”

“…The composition mentioned on the label included protein 1 g/ 100 g, total fat 0 g/100 g, cholesterol 0 g/100 g, carbohydrates 14 g/100 g, sugars 10 g/100 g, sodium 0 g/100 g, calcium 20 mg/100 g and vitamin C 54 mg/100 g. The Fresh fruits were peeled, and the edible portion was squeezed. The juice was filtered through double-layer gauze and the filtrate was divided into 10 mL aliquots in 15 mL Falcon tubes and stored at -80°C until used [10]. The filtrate was offered to rats with drinking water in a dosage of 15% (v/v) [11].…”
