Abstract: Background: Graves' disease is characterized by a diffuse hyperfunctional goiter that develops suddenly and is linked to an immune thyroid stimulating factor. Graves' disease hyperthyroidism is caused by circulating IgG antibodies binding to and activating the G-protein–coupled thyrotropin receptor.
