Assessment of the Effect of Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide Concentrations on Gas Evolution During Heat Treatment of Thermoanthracite Carbon Material

Abstract: The processes of the interaction of carbon material (thermoanthracite pouring) with a gas-air mixture in a heat chamber were studied while heating to 800-850°C. The influence of temperature, oxygen and carbon dioxide concentration on the formation efficiency of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen and methane was determined. A pilot plant was created, which provided heating of the carbon material at the indicated temperatures and regulating the supply of air and carbon dioxide. It was found that a noticea… Show more

“…However, the origin of carbon monoxide cannot be solely attributed to dehydration or decarboxylation reactions. Existing literature [44] suggests an elevated generation of carbon monoxide, possibly through reactions with carbon dioxide and water vapor, with the quantity increasing as the temperature rises. The involvement of mineral substances as catalysts in these reactions is plausible, especially since the torrefaction of willow produced a relatively larger amount of carbon monoxide than biomass containing significantly less mineral content.…”

“…The list of environmentally hazardous objects of Zaporizhzhia (Ukraine) includes PJSC "Ukrainian Graphite" -a well-known manufacturer of graphite electrodes for electric smelters and other types of electric furnaces, commercial carbon masses for electrodes [17][18][19]. This company together with other industrial companies-polluters of Zaporizhzhia, whose emissions make up 60-70 % of the total gross amount of pollutant emissions, makes a major contribution to the air pollution of the city.…”
