Assessment of the feasilibility of different oil sources to biodiesel production

Abstract: ABSTRACT. The use of Biodiesel allows several advantages over diesel fuels such as lower pollutants emission profiles into the atmosphere, hand jobs posts creating, and reduction of imported diesel fuel. Since the program has begun, the soybean oil has been used as mainly raw material to biodiesel production. In fact, this culture is the only that can afford the production needs from biodiesel facilities. However, this oil is a commodity and alternatives fatty materials sources have to be found in order to inc… Show more

“…Enquanto que o Orbignya phalerata quando utilizando etanol como solvente, apresentou o teor de lipídeos de 45% (Pinto et al 2012). Atribui-se este valor ao tipo do solvente utilizado (polar ) (Martins et al 2013) e aos cuidados de pré-análise do referido autor, uma vez que o mesmo relata que a umidade da oleaginosa pode influenciar na extração do lipídeo.…”

“…During the processing, the mesocarp is removed and the oil is extracted through pressure, generating a protein-rich cake that can be used for bioethanol production [110,8]. The oils extracted from the mesocarp and endosperm are suitable for biodiesel production [111], for uses in chemical and food industries [93][94][95], and applications in the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industry [112]. From the endocarp, a solid biofuel (biochar) can be obtained for thermal energy generation [2,8] and also used as biosorbent, with possibilities for environmental purposes such as water/wastewater treatment/remediation [102][103][104][105][106][107][108][109]37].…”

“…These legal requirements have undoubtedly contributed to reduce petroleum consumption and the Brazilian share on greenhouse gas emissions (Pinto et al, 2012;Vieira et al, 2021), but at the same time, have boosted the generation of glycerol, a by-product that represents about 10% in mass of the produced biodiesel.…”
