Assessment of the Performance of Oxidation Pond System for Wastewater Reuse

Abstract: A study has been conducted to evaluate the performance of an aerated oxidation pond system in a village in Egypt. It comprises an anaerobic pond (AP), an aerated facultative pond (AeP) and a maturation pond (MP). The assessment involved an intensive programme of sampling and analysis of raw wastewater, unit process contents and unit process effluents. Field studies indicated a wide fluctuation in the BOD5 load applied to the STP. It ranged from 64 to 290 g BOD5/m3.d, with an average value of 146… Show more

“…This project scenario typically comprises engineering research projects (El‐Gohary et al ., 1993; Farid et al ., 1993; Schellinkhout, 1993; Smith et al ., 1993; Ahmad and Schmid, 2002). These studies typically target the project planning phase, where evidence is needed to justify funding for a project.…”

“…One was field notes based on an excavation project in Eastern Egypt (Sidebotham, 1993). The other sixteen were locally run projects, often through universities, ranging from small‐scale village projects to large‐scale policy and management projects (Abu Hamed and Sannen, 1993; Abu Zeid and Abdel Dayem, 1993; Ahmad and Schmid, 2002; El‐Katsha and Watts, 1993; Hefny et al ., 1993; Mintz et al ., 1995; Nicholson, 1993; Platenburg and Zaki, 1993; Radwan, 1998; Rose, 1993; Semaika and Rady, 1993; El‐Gohary et al ., 1993; Farid et al ., 1993; Schellinkhout, 1993; Smith et al ., 1993).…”
