“…Each case in the present series demonstrated ADH or DCIS. Regarding discrimination from breast cancer, Finlay et al [17] reported that all RS/CSL could be demonstrated by US, and almost all were visualized as an irregularly shaped low-echo area, but this finding was not considered to discriminate between RS/ CSL and breast cancer [18]. All of the present cases were similar to those described by Finlay et al Two of our patients manifested the interesting appearance of retraction from surrounding tissue on US.…”

“…Since the initial radiographic description by Tabar and Dean, 4 several papers have shown that RS/CSL and carcinoma may simulate each other so that mammography cannot accurately differentiate RS/CSL from carcinoma. 2,6,14,15 Twenty-five percent of the lesions in this study were classified as suspicious for carcinoma mammographically, and RS/CSL was not considered. Cytologically, one of these three cases had insufficient material for diagnosis, one was reported as benign, and the third was reported as atypical.…”

“…Diagnostic Cytopathology, Vol 16,No 6 Due to the complex nature of these lesions, false-positive results may also occur with frozen section. One of our screen-detected RS/CSLs, which was reported as atypical cytologically, was falsely reported as malignant on frozen section.…”

“…Rarely, radial scars appear similar to carcinomas on sonography, with an irregular shape and marked shadowing. 19 Radial scars are often seen in 1 plane but are difficult to demonstrate in the orthogonal plane. 9 In general, radial scars are fortuitous microscopic findings.…”
