Assessment of the technical condition of lift guides using a magnetic field

Abstract: The systems that monitor individual components of machines and devices are under constant development. The ability to detect damages at an early stage allows failures to be prevented, so any uncontrolled downtime can be predicted in a controlled manner. Continuous monitoring of technical condition is an activity that also helps to reduce the losses due to equipment failures. However, not all areas can be monitored continuously. Such areas include lift guides where wear and tear can occur naturally, i.e. throug… Show more

“…The gradient of tangential gradB Tx and normal gradB Nz components for the corresponding magnetic flux leakage component was determined as the absolute value of a derivative of the mean recorded magnetic induction components ( 5) and (6). Also, the resultant gradient gradB TxNz , calculated as the product of the gradients of tangential gradB Tx and normal gradB Nz (7) components, was determined.…”

“…This software required absolute determination of the correlation between wear processes in fatigue testing of T-T straps and the results of magnetic testing in order to develop the final criteria for acceptance or rejection of this T-T strap structure. In publication [7], the use of a pioneering concept of the magnetic head is described for assessing the technical condition of lift guide rails that are the running track of lift equipment. The preliminary tests were performed on the test stand designed for this purpose.…”

“…The method itself received patent protection in the Republic of Poland and the first prize during the competition organised by Elevator World in the Project of Year 2020. In the publication [3], the authors presented the results of laboratory tests in which they used their own concept of a magnetic head for the assessment of technical condition of lift guide rails. Since it is quite difficult to assess the technical condition of guide rails under operating conditions, the proposed method was validated on a laboratory bench and its results gave positive results.…”
