Assessment of Thermal Aging Degree of 10kV Cross-Linked Polyethylene Cable Based on Depolarization Current

Abstract: During the long-term operation of high-voltage cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) cables, the cable will gradually deteriorate under the effect of various aging factors. Thermal aging is one of the key factors directly related to the long-term operation reliability of the XLPE cables. In this paper, the thermal aging samples are prepared for PDC measurement. Based on the polymer trap theory and the extended Debye model, the shape of PDC curve, depolarization charge, parameters of the extended Debye model, aging … Show more

“…Yanqun Liao [ 19 ] proposed a novel holistic approach in order to facilitate the implementation of risk-based maintenance strategies for cable conduits, cable terminations, joints, bodies, and grounding systems for each cable loop. Based on the polymer trap theory and the extended Debye model, the shape of the PDC curve, depolarization charge, parameters of the extended Debye model, aging factor ( A ), elongation at break retention rate (EB%), and their relationships under different thermal aging degrees were analyzed by Yiyi Zhang [ 20 ]. It is worth noting that there are many factors that affect the running state of the cable and no relevant scholars have carried out an in-depth analysis of the factors affecting the running state of the cable in all aspects and angles.…”

“…For applying stress and to properly examine and characterize the core insulation, the cables selected were unarmored Al/PVC/PVC. Based on the literature review, in experiments with high temperatures and vigorous chemicals the polymer must have to be contained in a chamber that is both mechanically stiff and lightweight and it also exhibits greater resistance against concentrated salts, acids, alkalis and hydrocarbons [37]. It should sustain high pressure without breaking or bursting.…”

“…[4][5][6] In recent years, many scholars have conducted a lot of research on the aging of insulation layer of high voltage cable. [7][8][9][10][11][12] Li et al studied the effect of thermal aging on the crystal structure in the insulation layer of 110 kV cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) cable. The results show that the thermal aging process of XLPE sample can be divided into physical aging stage and chemical aging stage.…”
