Assessment of trace elements in fishes of Japanese foods marketed in São Paulo (Brazil)

Abstract: a b s t r a c tIn recent years, there has been increasing fish consumption in Brazil, largely due to the popularity of Japanese cuisine. No study, however, has previously assessed the presence of inorganic contaminants in species used in the preparation of Japanese food. In this paper, we determined total arsenic, cadmium, chromium, total mercury, and lead contents in 82 fish samples of Tuna (Thunnus thynnus), Porgy (Pagrus pagrus), Snook (Centropomus sp.), and Salmon (Salmo salar) species marketed in São Paul… Show more

“…Sodium in vertebrate eye playing a major role in maintaining the cells either in depolarized or hyper polarized depends on the day light and dark condition. The adequate potassium and sodium is necessary for proper functioning of nervous system (Morgano et al 2011). It should be mentioned that studies on mineral composition of fish eye are scarce.…”

“…The higher Cd concentration may be attributed to the higher Cd background in the sea water and sediment along the Bohai and Yellow Sea (Gao et al 2014). Moreover, Cd It should be noted that the comparisons were conducted with adult sea cucumbers and different areas, however, the chemical contents between different species as well as individuals of the same species are influenced by various factors, including habitat, gender, age, catching place and time (Morgano et al 2011). Nevertheless, to our knowledge, there has no study regarding the heavy metals contents in sea cucumber juveniles and the reliable data concerning the heavy metals in adult sea cucumbers is also limited.…”
