Assessment of vision-related quality of life in patients with homonymous visual field defects

Abstract: Our findings indicate that detectable decrements in vision-targeted, health-related QOL are observed in patients with homonymous visual field loss. A relationship of the perceived visual functioning with objective parameters is by definition difficult; however, understanding what components of visual function affect certain visual tasks, would help in developing more efficient, clinical assessment strategies. The results reveal a tendency for increasing QOL with advancing size of the area of sparing within the… Show more

“…16,17 This in turn, can help tailor the goals in rehabilitation programs to enhance the person's functioning and well-being. Additionally, with the need to evaluate the effectiveness of visual interventions, the ability to determine if these interventions influence quality of life measures positively would be beneficial.…”

“…7 This questionnaire had been administered before implantation, as well as during the acute testing period and shortly after removal of the device. The global score was calculated as described by Papageorgiou et al 8 To assess changes to the mean global score during the course of the study, statistical analysis was performed using repeated measures ANOVA. Subsequently, an interval history was taken, visual acuity was measured, and intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements were performed using Goldmann applanation tonometry.…”
