Assessment on Bearing Capacity of Two Clay Layers Soil Using COMSOL

Abstract: Natural soils are often deposited in layers and homogeneous soils which are very rarely found in nature. Thus, bearing capacity of layered soil cannot be treated anymore as single soil since the soil strength and stiffness parameters are different and increase their linearly with depth. There are two cases which can be consider as inhomogeneous layer soil where strong clay overlaying weak clay layers or weak clay overlaying strong clay layers. A parametric study was conducted to assess the ultimate bearing cap… Show more

“…The soil deposit was model as a soil column with the linear elastic perfectly plastic Mohr-Coulomb (MC). The MC model had only limited number of features in parameters that show soil behaviour in reality [10]. The MC failure criterion described the effective stress at the failure with effective strength and cohesion only.…”

“…In the past years, the analysis of the collapse shear failures of a strip footing over a two layers foundation clay were analyzed experimentally [8]. Study approaches on bearing capacity of shallow footings on layers soil has been studied extensively are covered analytically [9], semi-empirical [10], empirical to finite element methods [11][12]. The ultimate bearing capacity of the layered soil chose finite element analysis [11][12] for handling complex layered pattern and complex behaviour of soil for examples [13] examined plane-strain footings on sand overlaying clay soils and [14] calculated the undrained soil on two-layered clays.…”
