Assessments of Real-Time Communications over TSN Automotive Networks

Abstract: The IEEE 802.1Q-2018 standard embeds in Ethernet bridges novel features that are very important for automated driving, such as the support for time-driven communications. However, cars move in a world where unpredictable events may occur and determine unforeseen situations. To properly react to such situations, the in-car communication system has to support event-driven transmissions with very low and bounded delays. This work provides the performance evaluation of EDSched, a traffic management scheme for IEEE… Show more

“…However, the security policy makes it difficult to obtain this detailed information. We refer to IVN structural dimensions data provided by OEM and [ 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 ] to design DIA and ZIA proposed in this section. The wiring harnesses have different numbers of sockets, connectors, and wires, depending on their function.…”

“…However, such a framework cannot cope with ED traffic, and it also entails complex and time-consuming schedule calculations. As far as providing support to real-time ED traffic is concerned, the work in [23] proposes a traffic management scheme, called EDSched, which introduces explicit support for ED real-time traffic. EDSched guarantees temporal isolation to time-driven flows using the transmission gates of the IEEE 802.1Q-2018 standard and introduces a novel traffic class, the ED class, to reduce the delay of ED flows.…”

“…In [58], authors evaluate a specific traffic management scheme that enables the integration of event-driven traffic for IVNs. There are already several solutions available in the market incorporating some of the TSN standards, and with a roadmap to be able to provide most of them.…”
