Assisted reproductive techniques in Latin America: The Latin American Registry, 2014

Abstract: INTRODUCTIONThe Latin American Registry of Assisted Reproduction (RLA) was established in 1990 as the first multinational and regional registry of assisted reproductive technology (ART). Yearly, a report is provided containing outcome of ART procedures performed by 159 institutions in 15 countries from Mexico in the north to Chile in the south. All institutions reporting to the registry need to be certified by an independent body before their data are accepted. The accreditation team consists of a clinician an… Show more

“…Assisted reproductive technology (ART) has substantially improved and is increasingly used, especially in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), so a considerable number of infertile couples are given the chance to have healthy infants. To maximize the success rate of live birth, double embryo transfers are routinely carried out, 1,2 which has resulted in the increasing incidence of multiple pregnancies. However, single embryo transfer has been promoted as the increased perinatal risks of maternal and neonatal complications among twin pregnancies are well known.…”

“…In spite of advanced progress in assisted reproduction technology (ART) over the past 20 years, the effectiveness of embryo transfer (ET) per cycle is still relatively low. In 2015, the delivery rate (DR) per ET in Latin America reached 25.6% in fresh autologous ET, and 36.8% when using donated eggs ( Zegers-Hochschild et al ., 2017a ; b ).…”

“…In Denmark, for example, IUI treatments have been registered since 2007 (Malchau et al ., 2014). REDLARA, the Latin American Network of Assisted Reproduction, reported 6,250 cycles of IUI in 2013 with a birth rate per cycle of 14.9% (Zegers-Hochschild et al ., 2016). In Brazil, outcomes and indications of IUI are scarce.…”
