“…For sensitivity analysis, we converted BMI from a continuous variable to a categorical variable. Based on guidelines from the Working Group on Obesity in China (WGOC) 16 , participants were classified into BMI categories of underweight (< 18.5 kg/m 2 ), normal weight (18.5–23.9 kg/m 2 ), overweight (24–27.9 kg/m 2 ), or obesity (≥ 28 kg/m 2 ). Compared to those with normal weight, overweight males exhibited reduced odds of SA (OR = 0.38, 95% CI 0.22–0.64, P < 0.001), whereas underweight females showed increased odds of SA (OR = 7.85, 95% CI 1.47–41.84, P = 0.016).…”

“…In large Swedish cohort research, Batty et al 29 showed an increased risk of SA in underweight men, and they also found that low weight was inversely correlated with SA within the normal BMI range. Individuals with a low BMI are predisposed to diminished physical functioning, which in turn is associated with emotional distress and more severe depressive symptoms 16 . A study conducted in the United States found that among men with MDD, a lower BMI was correlated with increased depressive symptom severity 30 .…”

“…To the best of our knowledge, few studies have developed a prediction model to determine the probability of SA in patients with rst-episode drug-naïve (FEND) MDD, particularly within the Chinese population. Patients with FEND MDD offer a unique opportunity to study the connection between SA and associated risk factors in MDD patients without the confounding in uence of medications and lifestyle interventions, such as disease course and comorbid medical illness [19]. Therefore, the objective of this study was to construct and validate a novel nomogram combining evidence-based and statistically signi cant clinical features to predict the risk of SA in a relatively large sample size of patients with FEND MDD in China.…”

“…[16][17][18] Body mass index (BMI), a standard that commonly used to measure the degree of obesity and health level of the human body, is related to endocrine imbalance, sleep quality, dietary structure, physical exercise habits, one recent study showed that lower BMI, especially in those with BMI below 22.1 kg/m 2 , is associated with a higher risk of recent suicide attempts (SA) in Chinese patients with first-episode drug-naïve (FEDN) of major depressive disorder (MDD). 19 Some other studies suggested that Individuals with MDD exhibited reduced total 24-h heart rate variability (HRV) and daytime HRV, as well as ascended levels of inflammatory markers of C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), and multivariate analyses revealed robust inverse associations of total 24-h HRV and daytime HRV with IL-6, that is, an attenuated daytime HRV may correlate with higher circulating levels of IL-6 in MDD patients. Furthermore, one study confirmed that erythrocyte linoleic acid (LA) was positively associated with higher appendicular lean mass (ALM/BMI), higher premeal heart rate variability, and better reported overall sleep quality.…”
