Association between diffusion tensor imaging findings and domain-specific cognitive impairment in cerebral small vessel disease: a protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract: IntroductionCognitive impairment is the main clinical manifestation of cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD). However, the mechanism and structural damage in different domains of cognitive disorders are poorly understood. There is an urgent need to quantify the relation between diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) data and impaired cognitive testing in CSVD, which may help to find biomarkers for early diagnosis or treatment evaluation. We aim to summarise the understanding of association between DTI findings and doma… Show more

“…The meta-analysis was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines (Moher et al, 2009). This research was registered in PROSPERO (International prospective register of systematic reviews; registration number: CRD42021226133), and the meta-analysis protocol was published online after peer review (Xie et al, 2021). from 1 January 1994, to 1 August 2021.…”

“…In recent years, many studies have highlighted the role of Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) MRI in CSVD [66,67]. DTI is a functional MRI technique aiming to detect changes in the neuronal network precociously.…”

“…Measures derived from DTI are sensitive to the changes in microstructural integrity that are associated with hypertension and CSVD that could also be associated with cognitive decline. 14 While the relationship between age at hypertension diagnosis and late life brain and cognitive health has been investigated, 9 it remains unclear whether these relationships are the same in females and males. Indeed, sex differences have an impact on the prevalence and outcomes of hypertension.…”
