Association Between Fasting Plasma Triglycerides, All-Cause and Cardiovascular Mortality in Czech Population. Results From the HAPIEE Study

Abstract: Dyslipidemia is the risk factor of cardiovascular disease, but the relationship between the plasma triglyceride (TG) levels and total/cardiovascular mortality has not yet been analyzed in Slavs. The aim of our study was to analyze the association between the fasting TG levels and all-cause/cardiovascular mortality. We have examined 3,143 males and 3,650 females, aged 58.3±7.1 years. 729 deaths (274 cardiovascular deaths) have been registered during up to 11.8 years of follow-up. Age-sex adjusted all-cause morta… Show more

“…In addition, adjusted spline curves analyze showed when TG was greater than 135 mg/dL, the risk of all-cause mortality was elevated, suggesting a nonlinear relationship between TG and mortality. This finding was similar to previous studies [7,17]. When TG < 135 mg/dL, TG was inversely associated with all-cause mortality.…”

“…Similarly, in our two populations, TG values were significantly higher in patients than in controls. In agreement with this finding, plasma TG values, rather than plasma TC values are predictors of total mortality (Hubáček 2015, Liu et al 2013, Pikhart et al 2015.…”

“…In the Czech group, 999 male patients (younger than 65 years) hospitalized between 2006 and 2012 at the coronary care unit of the Institute for Clinical and Experimental Medicine for acute coronary syndrome (ACS) (Hubáček et al 2015, Hubáček et al 2016 In the Kazakhstan group, 232 male patients (aged 50-74 years) hospitalized between 2013 and 2015 at the coronary care unit of the Astana City Hospital #2 for acute coronary syndrome were included in the analysis.…”

“…New physiological roles of apoAV have been recently elucidated, such as control of chylomicron production in the intestine and TG accumulation in adipose tissue [10]. Epidemiological studies showed a strong correlation between increased TG concentrations and the elevation of coronary artery disease risk and more importantly with all-cause mortality [3,[11][12][13][14]. Moreover, the deficiency of the endogenous APOA5 gene leads to 4fold increased serum TG concentrations in mice and were decreased by 65% by overexpression of the human APOA5 gene [6,15].…”
