“…Given the higher risk of melanoma occurring in adults with HN [ 5 ], close monitoring is recommended. Previous studies have described the reliability of RCM in the evaluation of HN in consideration of the ground truth of histopathology and for this reason, the diagnosis was made based on clinical-dermoscopic confocal presentation [ 3 ].…”

“…This corresponds to the risk of melanoma in patients with atypical nevi or a personal/familial history of melanoma. New-onset HN in adults requires close follow-up and monitoring for malignancy [ 5 ].…”

“…Halo naevi are a very common phenomenon, especially in children while being rare in adults after the age of 50 (Brenn, 2012). Although the presence of a halo naevus in adults might raise suspicion for melanoma, the risk of melanoma in the year following the diagnosis of an adult‐onset halo naevus is reported to be 1%, comparable to that of patients with atypical naevi or a personal/familial history of melanoma (Haynes et al, 2021). Nonetheless, multiple halo naevi in adults have been linked to a much higher risk of melanoma (995 times higher) (Lorentzen, 2020).…”

“…Increased presence of halo nevi has also been observed in patients with Turner syndrome, a common sporadic genetic disorder characterized by short stature, webbed neck, and impaired gonadal and sexual development, suggesting a genetic basis for the tendency to develop halo nevi (Bello-Quintero et al, 2010; Brazzelli et al, 2004). Crucially, the sudden development of halo nevi has been associated with occult cutaneous or ocular melanoma at a distant site in adults (Balin & Barnhill, 2018; Haynes et al, 2021; Vyas et al, 2016), possibly because of cross-reactivity between antigens within the malignant tumor and benign nevomelanocytes elsewhere on the body (Zeff et al, 1997). However, the overall incidence of melanoma—and thus melanoma-associated halo nevi—remains extremely low among pediatric patients (Paulson et al, 2020).…”
