Association Mapping of Verticillium Wilt Disease in a Worldwide Collection of Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.)

Abstract: Cotton (Gossypium spp.) is the best plant fiber source in the world and provides the raw material for industry. Verticillium wilt caused by Verticillium dahliae Kleb. is accepted as a major disease of cotton production. The most practical way to deal with verticillium wilt is to develop resistant/tolerant varieties after cultural practices. One of the effective selections in plant breeding is the use of marker-assisted selection (MAS) via quantitative trait loci (QTL). Therefore, in this study, we aimed to dis… Show more

“…The scientifically proven therapeutic activities of C. limon include anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, anticancer, and antiparasitic actions. Citrus flavonoids may also modulate blood platelet functions and have an anti-aggregatory effect [29,30]. To further explore the pharmacological properties of C. limon, the current investigation focused on the neuro-pharmacological benefits of this plant in the in vivo mouse model.…”

“…Another group of scientists has conducted a GWAS using high-density genotyping with the CottonSNP63K array and identified a total of 15 and 13 QTL for VW and FW resistances were anchored by 30 and 56 significant SNP markers, respectively ( Abdelraheem et al, 2020 ). Similar studies were also conducted by Bardak et al (2021) to discover the genetic markers associated with the Verticillium wilt disease in a Worldwide Collection of Cotton ( Gossypium hirsutum L.; Bardak et al, 2021 ). Through the association mapping analysis, common SNP markers were obtained using 4,730 SNP alleles.…”

“…Calcium-dependent protein kinases (CDPKs) are a large family of serine/threonine kinases that play an important role in plant defense [ 36 ] and phytohormone signaling pathways [ 37 ], and are responsible for the phosphorylation of a bZIP transcription factor FD, which is required for the formation of the florigen complex [ 38 ]. Glucose-6-phosphate/phosphate translocator 2 gene was found to be associated with verticillium wilt disease [ 39 ] and the C-terminal domain phosphatase-like 1 (CPL1) gene is known to repress stress-inducible gene expression in Arabidopsis [ 40 ] and enhance tolerance to heat stress in chrysanthemum [ 41 ]. Within the QTL ClBFB10.2 region, a total of 18 genes were identified ( Table S3 ).…”
