Association of adipose most abundant transcript 1 gene (apM1) with type 2 diabetes mellitus in a Chinese population: a meta‐analysis of case‐control studies

Abstract: This apM1 polymorphism was found to be strongly associated with T2DM, and the SNP45TG + GG and SNP276GG forms of the apM1 increased risk for T2DM in Chinese populations.

“…Six meta-analysis of the association between the genetic variants in the ADIPOQ gene and T2DM have been published [74], [80][84]. Menzaghi et al [74] found no association between any of the SNPs (rs2241766/rs1501299/rs266729) and T2DM among populations from all over the world.…”

“…It is noteworthy that +45T>G (rs2241766) and +276G>T (rs1501299) were closely associated with susceptibility to type 2 diabetes in a Japanese population [25], but not in French or Swedish whites [37,38], while 45TG+GG and 276GG were associated with increased risk of type 2 diabetes in Chinese populations [69]. However, our meta-analysis did not find significant associations between the SNPs +45T>G (rs2241766) and +276G>T (rs1501299) and type 2 diabetes in Asians and whites.…”

“…The previous meta-analysis included eight papers for SNP+45 and four papers for SNP+276[48], whereas we combined our results with those of recently published studies, namely 23 papers for SNP+45 and 11 papers for SNP+276. As a result, we were able to conduct a comprehensive meta-analysis in which the number of studies was almost three times higher than in the previous analysis[48].…”
