Association of Deslorelin and Sulpiride for Double Ovulation Induction in Mares

Abstract: The aim of this study was to verify the effect of deslorelin and sulpiride association on double ovulation induction in mares. Ten mares were used for this study. Eight days after ovulation, luteolysis was induced and mares were submitted a daily ultrasonographic evaluation until observation of at least two follicles measuring between 20 and 25 mm. Animals were split in two experimental groups in a crossover study. In deslorelin (DES) group, the animals received 150 mg deslorelin, intramuscularly, every 12 hou… Show more

“…Which alters the transport of oocytes to the oviduct where fertilization by sperm occurs. Considering the above, the embryo recovery rate increases when two or three ovulations are stimulated per ovary [7]. Which is why in equines, it is not thought in protocols to superovulate but in protocols for double ovulation there is a good embryo recovery and to avoid malformations in the follicles and in the oviduct [5].…”

“…It reaches the pituitary system, causing the secretion of gonadotropins such as follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), which generates the process of follicular growth and maturation, and luteinizing hormone (LH), which is responsible for intervening in the process of ovulation and formation of the corpus luteum (CL) [4]. Estrogen (E2) also stimulates the proliferation of all epithelial and stromal cells of the super cial stratum during estrus (until ovulation), triggering after the hormonal peak, the mare to ovulate between 24 and 48 h before the end of estrus [5] The use of new techniques to increase reproductive e ciency in mares concerning embryo production has been limited, especially due to the lack of reliable protocols for the induction of superovulations [6], which are intended to produce two oocytes per hormonal treatment, which are to be potentially transferable embryos after being fertilized, collected from a genetically superior donor mare and transferred to recipient mares that are responsible for gestation, increasing the number of offspring per female per year [7].…”
