Association of IL-6 -174G>C and -572G>C Polymorphisms with Susceptibility to Cervical Cancer and Ovarian Cancer

Abstract: Background: During the past decades, the expansion of molecular development has had a key role in understanding the basis of gynecological cancer. Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is known to be involved in the pathogenesis of different cancers. Here, we evaluated the association of IL-6 -174G>C and -572 G>C polymorphisms with susceptibility to cervical and ovarian cancers in an Iranian population. Methods: A total of 131 cases with ovarian cancer, 124 cases with cervical cancer and 140 healthy subjects were enrolled to t… Show more

“…Warli et al detected that higher level of Il-6 correlated with metastases in lymph nodes in bladder cancer [ 53 ]. On the other hand, Hashemzehi et al observed an association of Il-6 -174G>C polymorphism with the risk of ovarian and also cervical cancer [ 54 ]. In 2020, Ahmed et al published a study about the association of TGF-ß1 rs 1880242 and Il-6 SNPs in the inflammatory process in ovarian cancer recurrence.…”

“…In 168 Brazilian patients, rs1800795 (G) allele frequency was higher in gastric cancer than in patients with chronic gastritis (Gatti et al, 2007). A recent study illustrated that that the IL-6 -174G>C polymorphism was associated with ovarian cancer and cervical cancer risk (Hashemzehi et al, 2021).…”

“… 8 Elevated levels of IL‐6 have been found in tumor tissues 9 , 10 , 11 and several single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the IL‐6 gene have been implicated with increased risk of cervical cancer. 6 , 12 , 13 , 14 …”

“…8 Elevated levels of IL-6 have been found in tumor tissues [9][10][11] and several singlenucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the IL-6 gene have been implicated with increased risk of cervical cancer. 6,[12][13][14] Two promoter polymorphisms, rs1800795 (−174G/C) and rs1800797 (−597A/G), the IL-6 gene have been associated with a wide variety of malignancies, 15,16 including cervical cancer. 14,17,18 These two SNPs are located in the 5′ flanking region (7p15.3) of the IL-6 gene promoter.…”
