Association of IL-6 C-572G Gene Polymorphism with Anti-E Production

Abstract: Background: Interleukin 6 (IL-6) is involved in regulation of immunoglobulin production. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between IL-6 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the IL-6 promoter and anti-E in red blood cell (RBC) transfusion recipients. Methods: 50 healthy subjects, 54 patients with RBC alloantibody anti-E (responders), and 45 patients without alloantibody (non-responders) were recruited. All patients were E antigen-negative. <b&… Show more

“…31 Different studies have found positive association of other cytokine polymorphisms and RBC alloimmunization in different populations. For example, IL6 572GG positive genotype was significantly associated with a high risk for anti-E alloimmunization 32 while TNFA 308A and IL1B 511T were associated with susceptibility to alloantibody in patients with SCD. 9 Although, these data corroborate the role of cytokine polymorphisms in RBC alloimmunization, there is few discussion of this topic in MDS patients.…”

“…Genomic DNA was extracted from whole blood using the QIAamp Blood Kit (Qiagen GmbH, Hilden, Germany). The subjects were genotyped to the −572 C>G (rs 1800796) polymorphism of the IL-6 gene by PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism as described previously [7].…”
