Association of individual meteors with their parent bodies

Abstract: Context. The main problem in establishing a parent body for a meteoroid stream is the choice of a reliable meteoroid stream identification method. There are several identification methods based on three components: a dynamical similarity function, a threshold value, and meteoroid stream search algorithm. Aims. The French Meteor Network, developed in the CABERNET project (PODET-MET), will soon provide a large amount of meteor observation data aiming to establish a parent body for each observed meteor. We theref… Show more

“…Our analysis of the effects of the value of the cut-off parameter on our results confirms that, as pointed out in Rudawska et al (2012), 0.05 is physically justified and it is the right choice for this study.…”

“…In our paper we find that this object is more akin to the Northern Taurids by only one metric. We obtained negative results for the association of 1997US2 and 2001XX103 claimed by Rudawska et al (2012a). Micheli (2013) associated asteroid 2007RU17 to Taurid Complex and observed the object for detecting its coma.…”

“…In a second step a computation backward in time for 5000 years allows nine associated NEOs to remain. Rudawska et al (2012a) tests D-criterion metrics, D SH and D H , using the model of generation and evolution of meteoroid stream in the solar system from Vaubaillon et al (2005). They determined a threshold of 0.084 for D SH and 0.077 for D H , when a meteor is associated to the meteoroid stream.…”

“…A lower threshold value of D sh < 0.05 was used by Rudawska & Jenniskens (2014); Kornoš et al (2014);. Rudawska et al (2012Rudawska et al ( , 2015b have revised such methods but there is still room for improvements, since even the date of ejection of simulated meteoroid stream cannot be found by backward integrations. The main difficulty remains in the comparison of semi-major axis and eccentricity, which are poorly determined (Egal et al 2017;Vida et al 2018).…”
