Association of MTHFR gene polymorphisms with migraine in North Indian population

Abstract: Polymorphisms in MTHFR gene are mostly associated with increased levels of homocysteine in the absence of dietary folate and are a risk factor for complex neurovascular diseases like migraine. The aim of present case-control study was to determine the association between MTHFR gene polymorphisms (C667T; rs 1801133, A1298C; rs 1801131) with migraine susceptibility. In total, 100 patients with migraine (23with MA and 77 with MO) and age-sex matched 100 healthy controls were included in this study from OPD of ESI… Show more

“…In our study we also showed a significant, though smaller, association between the T/T genotype and MOA (up to 28.8% have T/T polymorphism), as already reported in other studies in non-Caucasian pediatric and adult populations [4, 69, 12, 13]. …”

“…Five studies (4 in Caucasians and 1 in Indians) including 1368 cases and 1411 controls focused on MTHFR A1298C polymorphism and migraine . Genotype distributions in control groups of all 5 studies were consistent with HWE.…”

“…Main characteristics of these 26 studies were summarized in Table . All 26 studies focused on MTHFR C677T polymorphism, and 5 studies also investigated A1298C polymorphism . The numbers of studies recruiting Caucasians, Asians, Indians, and Pakistanis were 20, 3, 2, and 1, respectively.…”
