Association of quality of life with laboratory measurements and lifestyle factors in community dwelling older people in Taiwan

“…19 Low hemoglobin levels result in various adverse health outcomes, including not only low muscle strength, but also impaired walking; increase in fatigue, anxiety, and depression; and decline in QOL in community-dwelling people. [20][21][22][23][24] In patients with malignancies, low hemoglobin level may be caused by multiple factors; it could be a direct result of the cancer or the result of cancer treatment, such as chemotherapy. 25 A high proportion of patients with hematological malignancies, whose treatment is centered on chemotherapy, have low hemoglobin levels.…”

“…CASP-19 and its simplified versions, CASP-14 and CASP-12, have shown relatively high applicability in Europe, Taiwan, and mainland China ( 39 ). This study used revised quality of life scale for older adults created in 2009 (CASP-14), which features 14 sentences describing life or feelings about life ( 40 ). Scores were based on the four response options of “often,” “sometimes,” “rarely,” and “never.” The value for each question ranges from 1 to 4 points, and the final quality of life index is the average score of all dimensions.…”
