Association of systemic lupus erythematosus disease activity index score with clinical and laboratory parameters in pediatric onset systemic lupus erythematosus

Abstract: Objective: To determine the association of systemic lupus erythematosus disease activity index (SLEDAI) score in pediatric onset SLE (p-SLE) with clinical and laboratory parameters. Methods: This cross sectional observational study was conducted at Division of Rheumatology, Fatima Memorial Hospital, Lahore from November 2018 to January 2019. Total 23 patients diagnosed with p-SLE having onset of symptoms at ≤ 18 years of age, irrespective of their current age at presentation, of either gender, fulfilling… Show more

“…We found that the serum complement level decreased as the SLAM score increased. These results align with several other studies that found low complement levels in severe SLE [ 23 25 ]. The activation of the complement pathway in patients with SLE causes the continuous use of complements and decreases the serum levels of C3 and C4.…”

“…The comprehensive evaluation of LN activity is important for medication administration and outcome observation in clinical practice. The SLEDAI score is currently the most commonly used standard for evaluating SLE disease activity with the help of other indicators [ 19 ]. When the GFR of patients with LN is disrupted, albumin diafiltration increases significantly.…”

“…The SLEDAI is a global index that evaluates disease activity over the pre vious 10 days and includes 24 items on specific symptoms www.chikd.org in a nine organ system 22) . There is a report that increased SLEDAI scores were significantly associated with elevated antids DNA titers and low complement levels 23) . There is another report that disease activity was associated with hypertension in SLE patients, which compared with those with and without hypertension.…”
