Association of TLR-4 896A/G, TLR-4 1196C/T, and TLR-9 C/T polymorphism with schizophrenia in Indian Bengalee patient

Abstract: Background: Chronic low-grade inflammation triggered by viral agents is a suggested etiological factor for schizophrenia. However, the underlying mechanism of inflammation and genetic predisposition to schizophrenia is poorly understood. Toll-like receptor (TLR) is a potential candidate gene to understand the inflammatory process and genetic predisposition to schizophrenia as they are known to express widely in brain cells and can modulate cytokine synthesis through recognition of pathogen-associat… Show more

“…The main model was a gene model for TLR4 rs4986790 as well as TLR‐9 rs352140. These results indicate that SNPs in TLR genes rs4986791, rs4986790, and rs352140 could predispose individuals to schizophrenia 280 …”

“…As a key component of the innate immune system, TLR4 is essential for identifying pathogen-associated molecular patterns. 49 The rs4986790 and rs4986791 polymorphisms within the TLR4 gene have been implicated in altering the functionality of this receptor, potentially impacting the immune response in the host body. 49 …”

“…TLR4 expression in peripheral blood cells is significantly higher in drug-naïve schizophrenia patients than in controls [60]. Further, genetic polymorphisms of TLR4 have been associated with schizophrenia in several studies [59,61,62]. According to the UniProt, the Arg691Gly mutation is located at the TIR domain of TLR4.…”
