Association of TNF-α promoter polymorphisms with the outcome of persistent HBV infection in a northeast Chinese Han population

Abstract: Tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) plays an important role in the pathogenesis and clinical outcome of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. The objective of this study was to evaluate the relationship between functional polymorphisms of TNF-α and different outcomes of persistent HBV infection in a northeast Chinese Han population. Here 189 HBV spontaneously recovered subjects (SR), 571 HBV-infected patients including 180 chronic hepatitis B (CHB), 196 liver cirrhosis (LC), and 195 hepatocellular carcinoma (… Show more

“…Chen [21] 361 304 -238, -308, -863, -857 TNF 308 A/G genotype was significantly higher in controls than in the patient group Qiu [22] 571 189 -863, -857, The frequency of -857CC genotype was significantly higher in CHB and LC individuals compared with that of SR subjects; A significant difference in the distribution of the allele -857C was observed for both CHB vs. SR and LC vs. SR; The frequency of -863AA genotype was significantly higher in CHB and LC patients than that of SR subjects.…”

“…Thirty-six case–control studies about HCC and G308A, G238A, or C863T of TNF-α were obtained. But only 12 case–control studies [ 26 37 ] focusing on HBV-HCC were included in this meta-analysis with 1580 HBV-HCC cases, 2033 HBV carrier controls, 395 HBV SR controls, and 1116 healthy controls included. The basic characteristics of all primary studies are listed in Table 1 and the detailed information of pooled OR values for all primary studies displayed in Supplementary 1.…”

“…The diagnosis of CHB was based on seropositivity for HBsAg and persistently elevated levels of serum aminotransferase for longer than six months, in accordance with the criteria issued by the Chinese society of hepatology and the Chinese society of infectious diseases in 2010 (10). LC and HCC patients were diagnosed according to the criteria as previously described (11). Clearance subjects were negative for HBsAg and positive for both HBsAb and HBcAb, while they were normal in the indicators of liver function.…”
