The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of taste alterations (TAs) during chemotherapy and their association with nutritional status and malnutrition. In addition to the associated factors with TA, including sociodemographic health-related factors and clinical status, and to investigate coping strategies to manage TA. A multicenter cross-sectional design study was conducted on 120 cancer patients aged at least 18 who had been undergoing at least one round of chemotherapy. TAs were evaluated using the chemotherapy-induced taste alteration scale (CiTAS), the malnutrition universal screening tool (MUST) was used for nutritional screening, the antineoplastic side effects scale (ASES) was used for subjective assessment of chemotherapy side effects, and the Charlson comorbidity index (CCI) was used for comorbidity assessment. SPSS21 software was used to analyze the data, and the independent T-test and one-way ANOVA test were used to determine the association between TAs and a variety of related variables. The prevalence of TAs was 98.3%. Among participants, 48.3% were at low risk of malnutrition, 20% at medium risk, and 31.7% at high risk. Malnutrition risk was associated with taste disorders (p<0.05). Patients’ age, gender, educational level, and physical status were associated with TAs (p<0.05). Type of cancer, chemotherapy regimen, and number of chemotherapy cycles were also associated with TAs (p<0.05). A variety of antineoplastic side effects were associated with TAs (p<0.05), including nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, sore mouth and throat, excessive thirst, swallowing difficulty, appetite changes, weight loss, dizziness, lack of energy, disturbed sleep, anxiety, and difficulty concentrating. TAs were associated with an increased number of comorbidities, and individuals with diabetes, pulmonary diseases, and hypertension were associated with TAs (P<0.05). Patients in this study rarely practice self-management strategies to cope with TAs. A high prevalence (98.3%) of TAs in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy was found, and it was linked to a variety of negative outcomes. Chemotherapy-induced TAs are an underestimated side effect that requires more attention from patients and health care providers.

Os distúrbios alimentares são condições de comportamento que interferem de forma negativa na saúde geral e no bem-estar de um indivíduo, sendo a Anorexia Nervosa e a Bulimia Nervosa as desordens mais comuns. Os transtornos alimentares manifestam-se de forma sistêmica devido o comprometimento do estado nutricional e o mesmo ocorre na cavidade oral. Diante do exposto, este artigo possui como objetivo revisar a literatura acerca da saúde bucal em pacientes que possuem transtornos alimentares e apontar quais são as manifestações orais mais comuns nesses pacientes. Para a construção deste artigo foi feito um levantamento bibliográfico nas bases de dados Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (Lilacs), Scientific Eletronic Library Online (Scielo) e U.S. National Library of Medicine (PUBMED. Foram selecionados artigos contemplados entre os anos de 2010 a 2021. O levantamento bibliográfico revelou que as manifestações orais mais comuns em pacientes que possuem algum tipo de transtorno alimentares são a erosão dentária, doença cárie, sensibilidade dentinária e xerostomia. O manejo multiprofissional se torna imprescindível para o correto tratamento da causa das lesões orais. Na equipe de saúde deve conter, além dos dentistas, médicos, nutricionistas, psicólogos e, em alguns casos, o psiquiatra, a fim de evitar danos futuros à saúde e garantir bem-estar geral do paciente.

O câncer de cabeça e pescoço (CPP) corresponde a tumores localizados na pele, cavidade oral, lábios, glândulas salivares, laringe, faringe, cavidade nasal, seios paranasais, meato acústico externo e ouvido médio. Acomete pessoas de ambos o sexo, porém com maior predileção para o masculino e com idade superior a 40 anos. Os fatores de riscos associados a essa malignidade são tabagismo, etilismo, sobrepeso, exposição a raios ultravioleta, sedentarismo, entre outros. A radioterapia (RT) é o tratamento mais utilizado para CPP, e consiste em diferentes formas de radiações ionizantes que atuam sobre o DNA das células malignas, a fim causar sua morte e/ou impedir sua reprodução. Entretanto, embora seja em menor proporção, devido a maior capacidade de regeneração, a RT afeta tecidos e células saudáveis, ocasionando efeitos adversos que podem afetar o tratamento oncológico e influenciar no bem-estar de saúde do paciente. Diante do exposto, esse estudo objetivou revisar a literatura acerca das manifestações orais decorrentes da radioterapia da cabeça e do pescoço e abordar as estratégias de manejo oral para radioterapia de cabeça e pescoço. Para a construção deste artigo foi feito um levantamento bibliográfico nas bases de dados SciVerse Scopus, Scientific Eletronic Library Online (Scielo), U.S. National Library of Medicine (PUBMED) e ScienceDirect, usando o gerenciador de referências Mendeley. Os artigos foram coletados no período de maio a agosto de 2021 e contemplados entre os anos de 2015 a 2021. A partir da revisão narrativa da literatura, observou-se que as manifestações orais decorrentes da radioterapia de cabeça e pescoço xerostomia, mucosite oral, osteorradionecrose, trismo e disgeusia. Levando em consideração as grandes incidências de CPP, é de extrema importância que os profissionais da saúde estejam familiarizados com as complicações advindas de tratamentos oncológicos.
