“…On the contrary, anger functioned as a partial mediator for all deviant behaviors, except property delinquency. These findings support previous studies (Agnew, 1993(Agnew, , 2005Asgeirsdottir et al, 2011;Brezina, 1998;Capowich et al, 2001;Hay, 2003;Jang & Johnson, 2003;Sigfusdottir et al, 2008) and suggest that negative emotions intervene between sexual abuse and delinquent behavior in a time series. Our findings do not necessarily support Agnew's (2005) point that depression plays a more important role in the link between strain and internal delinquency.…”

“…Consistent with results of this study, positive correlations between adverse childhood experiences and suicide attempts have been reported in addicted patients with childhood abuse history [15,50,12]. Sexual abuse had direct effects on self-injurious behaviour and substance use among both genders, when controlling for age, family structure, parental education, anger, and depressed mood [52]. As the childhood experience scores increase the suicide attempts increase 60% [8].…”

“…In the present study, no independent associations were observed between childhood sexual abuse and adult violence, with a non-significant trend toward negative associations following adjustments. Childhood sexual abuse has been found to increase risk of adult psychopathology (Dinwiddie et al, 2000;Nelson & Wampler, 2000) associated with selfharm (Asgeirsdottir et al, 2011;Noll, Horowitz, Bonanno, Trickett, & Putnam, 2003), and with increased risk of repeated sexual and other forms of victimization in adulthood in samples which have included women (Coid et al, 2001;Follette, Polusny, Bechtle, & Naugle, 1996;MessmanMoore, Long, & Siegfried, 2000). However, the absence of independent associations between adult psychopathology and reported childhood sexual abuse among this sample of young adult men was an unexpected finding.…”
