Astroclimatic Statistics at the Sayan Solar Observatory

Abstract: The paper analyzes meteorological and optical characteristics of the atmosphere at the Sayan Solar Observatory (SSO) and the future 3 m Large Solar Telescope (LST-3). We examine spatial features of changes in astroclimatic characteristics for the Sayan Solar Observatory and Baikal Astrophysical Observatory (BAO). We have obtained a vertical profile of the structural characteristic of air refractive index fluctuations for a low intensity optical turbulence along the line of sight. This profile is an important r… Show more

“…The paper is aimed at the development of the method to detect the turbulence layers. This is important for the study of the structure of optical turbulence at the sites of the Large Solar Vacuum Telescope of the Baikal Astrophysical Observatory as well as Sayan Solar Observatory [1,2].…”

“…A possible cause of this underestimation may be the overestimated downward short-wave radiation that is taken into account within the computations for cloud coverage [20]. It is worth mentioning, however, that in some particular cases reanalyses may be consistent with meteorological stations data in terms of the low-frequency temporal variability of cloud characteristics [21].…”

“…After the first artificial Earth satellite was launched in 1957, new opportunities for studying our planet from near-Earth orbits appeared. Satellite monitoring allowed obtaining data on the distribution of air pollutants over large areas with a sufficient degree of reliability and estimating atmospheric characteristics with acceptable accuracy 3,4 . Over the past decades, NO2, NH3, CO, O3, SO2 and particulate matter (PMx) satellite measurement systems have been actively used to determine the global distribution of air pollutants in the atmosphere [5][6][7][8][9][10][11] .…”
