“…This article describes the tridentate Schiff base obtained by the reaction between nicotinohydrazide and acetylpyridine. The flexibility and the numerous coordination sites of the resulting acyclic ligand provide several possible structures with lanthanide ions [26][27][28]. Using the ligand N'-(1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethylidene)nicotine hydrazide (HL) in presence of neodymium nitrate or praseodymium acetate salts yield complexes of Nd 3+ or Pr 3+ with different behavior of the anions.…”

“…In our experience, only cerium( iv ) forms the mononuclear complex [Ce(SYML) 2 ] and this is due to the possibility of attaining a +4 oxidation state for cerium. 25 The synthesis of the complex followed the reported procedure for Yb( iii ), Er( iii ) and Dy( iii ), where the Ln( iii ) salt is added to a MeCN solution of the ligand in the presence of a weak organic base to facilitate the deprotonation of the phenol groups of the SYML ligand. Orange crystals of a dinuclear Eu( iii ) complex of formula [Eu 2 (SYML) 3 (H 2 O)] ( 1 ) are obtained as expected in moderate yield.…”
