Abstract:Many single‐core statistical algorithms do not scale well to learn the large‐scale data that we encounter. With the emergence of multiple core central processing units (CPUs), graphics processing units (GPUs), tensor processing units (TPUs), and supercomputers, parallel algorithms are developed to take advantage of multiple cores. However, parallel computing brings new challenges and bottlenecks. One major bottleneck is the synchronization among all the cores. Synchronization requires the cores that finish ear… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
