Ataxic hemiparesis after corona radiata infarct: Diffusion tensor imaging correlation of corticoponto-cerebellar tract injury

Abstract: A 50-year-old female patient underwent conservative management for a right corona radiata infarct at the Department of Neurology in a university hospital ( Figure 1A). She had no history of diabetes, hypertension, or heart disease. The patient received a loading dose of clopidogrel (300 mg/day), followed by 75 mg/day plus 100 mg/day aspirin. She was transferred to the rehabilitation department of the same hospital 2 weeks after infarct onset. Prior to this presentation, the patient had no history of any neurol… Show more

“…Moreover, CR, CP, PCT, and MCP are all important components of the cortico-ponto-cerebellar (CPCT) pathway. The CPCT pathway acts as a vital afferent fiber from the cerebral cortex to the contralateral MCP and is involved in the coordination of movement and higher cognitive functions, such as attention and working memory ( Jang and Kwon, 2017 ; Kim et al, 2020 ). As the largest commissure fiber, CC is a major pathway for interhemispheric information exchange and function integration.…”

“…Many well-designed studies adjusted the location of the stroke for finding decisive factors for motor recovery after stroke. For example, for evaluating the influence of diabetes and neural tract integrity on post-stroke motor recovery, Kim et al (2020) and Moon et al (2019) specifically included patients with corona radiata lesion (Kim et al, 2020;Moon et al, 2019). Therefore, a further study evaluating the correlations between functional improvement, psychosocial evaluation, type of paresis, and location of the stroke may be necessary.…”
