Atomic layer deposition of biobased nanostructured interfaces for energy, environmental and health applications

Abstract: The most fundamental phenomena in the immobilising of biomolecules on the nanostructured materials for energy, environmental and health applications are the control of interfaces between the nanostructures/nanopores and the immobilized biomaterials. Thus, the throughput of all those biobased nanostructured materials and devices can be improved or controlled by the enhanced geometric area of the nanostructured interfaces if an efficient immobilization of the biomolecules is warranted. In this respect, an accura… Show more

“…The mentioned structural parameters make a strong impact on optical, electrical and mechanical properties (Chaaya et al, 2013). In previous studies (Bechelany et al, 2015;Chaaya et al, 2013;Viter et al, 2015aViter et al, , 2015bViter et al, , 2016, we investigated the tuning of the optical and the structural properties of ultrathin ZnO films deposited by ALD along with their potential applications in sensors and biosensors (Chaaya et al, 2013).…”

“…Zinc Oxide (ZnO) which can be incorporated in the nanolaminate material is a n-type semiconductor with wide band gap value (3.3 eV) and high exciton binding energy (0.06 eV). It also exhibited room temperature photoluminescence in UV–vis region. , Among the different techniques to elaborate oxides based nanolaminates, atomic layer deposition (ALD) is a powerful tool to fabricate different oxide materials. , It is based on two self-limiting surface reactions which allow growing continuous, smooth, and conformal ultrathin film on high aspect ratio and complex substrates such as the 1D nanotructures with a precise dimensional control. This paper deals with the investigation of electronic and optical properties of ZnO/Al 2 O 3 nanolaminate coated electrospun nanofibers.…”

“…The properties of materials at the nanoscale strongly depend on their size, shape, chemical composition, and surface area (Bechelany et al, 2015;. Thus, ALD has been extensively used to modify and enhance different electrical, optical, catalytical, and structural properties of biosensor materials (Chen et al, 2004;Cheun et al, 2010;O'Neill et al, 2015;Wang et al, 2012).…”
