Atrial natriuretic peptide, brain natriuretic peptide and c‐type natriuretic peptide: effects on testicular microcirculation and immunohistochemical localization

Abstract: SummaryThe effect of local injection of atrial (ANP), brain (BNP) and C-type (CNP) natriuretic peptides and an ANP antagonist (HS-142±1) on testicular microcirculation and vasomotion was studied using laser Doppler¯owmetry. The natriuretic peptides were also localized immunohistochemically within the testis.ANP, BNP-32, CNP-22 and CNP-53 all caused a dose-related increase in testicular blood¯ow. The effect of ANP was blocked by concomitant injection of the ANP antagonist. Immunoreactive (ir) CNP and ir BNP wer… Show more

“…1C are consistent with this conclusion because positive CNP staining was found in the interstitium and immunoreactive CNP was detected in Leydig cells, macrophages, and/or endothelial cells ( Fig. 1 Cb and Cf ), similar to the findings of two earlier reports (20,21). The steady-state mRNA level of the CNP receptor NPR-B, however, was very low in germ cells vs. testes or Sertoli cells (Fig.…”

“…However, this possibility exists, as certain putative target genes for GATA-4, such as brain-type natriuretic factor, are expressed in both testicular somatic cells and cardiomyocytes (41,42). Whether these GATA-binding proteins regulate a common group of target genes in these various tissues in unknown.…”

“…Furthermore, researchers have reported that NPPA was expressed in foetal, progenitor and immature Leydig cell populations with a varied immunoreactive density (Mourdjeva et al, ). Collin, Lissbrant, and Bergh () also reported that NPPB is localised to Leydig cells in rats.…”
