“…In our referral fetal échocardiographie center, we have diagnosed ASA in 5 of 1,000 cases, giving an incidence of 0.25%. This is more closely in line with incidences reported by other centers [1][2][3][4], There is no explanation for this discrepancy in the rate of detection of fetal ASA.…”

“…In autopsy materi al it was reported as 1 % [ 1 ], which is probably an overesti-mation of the true incidence in the general population. In échocardiographie studies, the prevalence of ASA was found to be 0.57 and 1.7% in two large studies [2,4], A surprisingly high incidence of fetal ASA was found in a recent study of Rice et al [5], In their échocardiographie center they diagnosed fetal ASA in 42 of 105 cases (inci dence of 40%). Since there was no neonatal follow-up, no information is available regarding the persistence of the diagnosis postnatally.…”

“…The aneurysm, when it occurs in isolation, is not in fact associated with abnormalities of either physical examination or ECG. 16 Also, in our experience, this lesion turned out to be an unexpected echocardiographic finding.…”

“…Several studies have classified ASA based on morphology and movement of the aneurysm. 3,4,7 Based on the most recent study on a classification by morphology and movement during the cardiorespiratory cycle, 4 this patient has a type 5 ASA that moves equal distance to both right and left atria ( Table 1).…”
