-Tifton 85 (Cynodon sp.) is a forage crop widely used for the voluminous production, but it has also the potential to promote preservation or improvement in soil structural quality, when well managed. The aim of this work was to evaluate the soil physical quality in a rotational grazing area of Tifton 85 under irrigation in Prudente de Morais, MG, Brazil, due to the application of mineral and organic nitrogen fertilizers. The treatments included different forms of N supply: 400 kg ha -1 of urea; 400 kg ha -1 of bovine manure; 400 kg ha -1 of urea and manure, in proportion 1:1 and the control, without nitrogen fertilization. The following soil physical quality indicators were determined in the layers 0.0-0.05 m and 0.05-0.10 m after two years of N application: water retention curve, total porosity, macroporosity, microporosity, soil bulk density, available water capacity, bulk soil air capacity, soil matrix air capacity and relative water capacity. There were differences among the treatments, in both layers. In general, the treatments using bovine manure promoted greater water storage and availability, which was related to the increase of the microporosity, due to the organic matter effect. However, these same treatments presented a relative compaction, which was associated to the maintenance of higher soil moistures. It was concluded that, even under the effects of intensive grazing, there was generally adequate soil physical quality, but a special attention is recommended to the soil susceptibility to compaction.Keywords -water availability, soil aeration, organic fertilization, Cynodon sp.Resumo -O Tifton 85 (Cynodon sp.) é uma cultura forrageira muito utilizada para a produção de volumosos, mas também demonstra potencial para promover preservação ou melhoria da qualidade estrutural do solo, quando bem manejada. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a qualidade física do solo em área de pastejo rotacionado de Tifton 85 irrigado em Prudente de Morais, MG, Brasil, em função da aplicação de adubos nitrogenados de origem mineral e orgânica. Os tratamentos incluíram diferentes formas de suprimento de N: 400 kg ha -1 de ureia; 400 kg ha -1 de esterco bovino; 400 kg ha -1 de ureia e esterco, na proporção 1:1 e a testemunha, sem adubação nitrogenada. Determinaram-se os seguintes indicadores de qualidade física do solo nas camadas 0.0-0.05 e 0.05-0.10 m, após dois anos de manejo: curva de retenção de água, porosidade total, macroporosidade, microporosidade, densidade do solo, capacidade de água disponível, capacidade de aeração do solo, capacidade de aeração da matriz do solo e capacidade relativa de água no solo. Houve diferenças entre os tratamentos, em ambas as camadas. Em geral, os tratamentos com o uso de esterco promoveram maior retenção e disponibilidade de água, o que foi relacionado ao incremento da microporosidade, devido ao efeito da matéria orgânica. ABSTRACT:The soil porous space is where processes related to gases and soil solution occur, and provides an adequate guide for agricultural practices. This study aimed to evaluate the integrated effects of cultivation and the application of liquid bovine biofertilizer on the porous network of a Typic Haplocambids (Cambissolo Háplico Ta Eutrófico) cultivated with figs (Ficus carica L.). Four treatments were evaluated (under fig cultivation with the application of 20, 40 and 60 % of biofertilizer through irrigation, a control treatment without biofertilizer and an additional treatment -soil under natural vegetation). Disturbed and undisturbed soil samples were collected in three soil layers (0.0-0.1, 0.1-0.2 and 0.2-0.3 m) with four replicates. The following physical properties were analyzed: particle-size distribution, soil bulk and particle densities, and soil water retention curve. The coefficient of intrinsic soil air permeability was calculated based on the equation that considers the decreasing pressure method. Soil porosity, pore continuity index and blocked porosity were calculated and pore length was estimated. Compared with the native forest, pore network quality is improved, if not maintained, when the soil is cultivated under the conditions described in this experiment. In the conditions of cultivation, the application of bovine biofertilizer, for supplying sediments that block or reduce the size of the pores, did not improve soil air permeability. The cases where pore network quality was worsened in soil porosity as a result of the applied treatments (Biofertilizer 20 %, Biofertilizer 40 % and Biofertilizer 60 % for the layer of 0.0-0.1 m and Biofertilizer 60 % for 0.1-0.2 m), although not considered critical to plant development, point to the need for specific management practices (for instance, avoid coarse residues in the biofertilizer before its application) to avoid soil degradation.

Resumo: O monitoramento de atributos físicos do solo é aspecto de grande importância no desenvolvimento de uma agricultura sustentável. Neste contexto, planejamento agrícola deve fazer parte das tomadas de decisão em sistemas produtivos, o que acarreta menos impactos negativos ao ambiente. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar os impactos de usos e manejos sobre a variabilidade e qualidade de atributos físicos de Cambissolos, considerando: cultivado com banana, mamoeiro com plantio em camalhão e sulco, abacaxi e figo. Para todas as situações, solos de mata nativa secundária contígua com espécies vegetais da Caatinga foram selecionados como referência. Amostras de solo foram coletadas com estrutura preservada e não preservada nas camadas de 0-0,1 m, 0,1-0,2 m e 0,2-0,3 m para a obtenção de dados de granulometria, densidade de partículas, densidade do solo, porosidade do solo, resistência à penetração, permeabilidade intrínseca ao ar e matéria orgânica. Os dados foram analisados por meio de estatística descritiva e análise univariada. Concluiu-se que as intervenções nos solos levaram a que esses apresentem maior variabilidade espacial de seus atributos físicos em comparação aos não cultivados. Em todos os sistemas de usos e manejos, a qualidade física está mantida em condições satisfatórias para o desenvolvimento de plantas, embora se deva priorizar a melhora da rede macroporosa, particularmente a sua conexão e continuidade. Estrutura do solo.Abstract: Monitoring the physical attributes of the soil is a very important aspect of the development of sustainable agriculture. In this context, agricultural planning should be part of the decision making in production systems, and would result in fewer negative impacts on the environment. The aim of this study therefore, was to evaluate the impact of types of use and management on the variability and quality of the physical attributes of Cambisols, considering soils cultivated with banana, papaya planted in ridges and furrows, pineapple and fig. For all these situations, soils from native secondary forest contiguous with plant species of the Caatinga were selected as reference. Disturbed and undisturbed soil samples were collected from the 0-0.1 m, 0.1-0.2 m and 0.2-0.3 m layers to obtain data of particle size, particle density, bulk density, soil porosity, penetration resistance, intrinsic air permeability, and organic matter. The data were analysed by means of descriptive statistics and univariate analysis. It was concluded that soil intervention has led to greater spatial variability in the soil physical attributes in comparison with the non-cultivated soils. Under all the systems of use and management, physical quality is maintained at satisfactory levels for plant development, although improvement of the macropore network, in particular connection and continuity, should be prioritised.
