“…For example, many battered women report love for their partner as their reason for staying married (Langhinrichsen-Rohling, Schlee, Monson, ehrensaft, & Heyman, 1998), for returning to their partner (Griffing et al, 2002;Stackman, 1997), or for not getting a restraining order (Zoellner et al, 2000), all of which suggests the importance of emotional attachments to the partner. Fourth, given the potential similarity between current and early attachment relationships (Waters, Merrick, Treboux, Crowell, & Albersheim, 2000), early attachment relationships also undoubtedly play a role in a battered woman's perceptions of her partner and of her experience of IPV. Thus, ranging from secure attachment to dismissing attachment (associated with compulsive self-reliance), to preoccupied attachment (associated with dependency), to unresolved and fearful attachment (associated with aggression toward others; Lyons-Ruth & Jacobvitz, 1999), a woman's attachment style would presumably also be related to her views of the relationship (Shurman & Rodriguez, 2006).…”
