Attitudes towards e‐learning amongst dental students at the universities in Croatia

Abstract: Dental students have generally positive attitudes towards e-learning. Teachers should adopt strategies to change negative attitudes by introducing more e-learning courses in lower study years and should encourage students to use the Internet in their education and communication with teachers and colleagues.

“…This finding supports the studies done by Taylor & Todd, (1995); Ramayah et al (2004); Wong (2012) and Brumini et al (2014). However, the regression analysis confirms that e-learning attitudes have positive and significant relationship to students' intention to use e-learning in near future.…”

“…In other words, if a student thinks that there is more to be gained than lost by using e-learning based learning management system, he or she is more likely to use it. Many studies have shown the significant affect of attitude towards intention and use of the information systems Mathieson, 1991;Taylor and Todd, 1995;Lu et al 2003;Shih and Fang, 2004;Ramayah et al 2004 andSuki, 2006;Adewole-Odeshi, 2014;Wong, 2012 andBrumini et al, 2014). Wernet et al (2000) surveyed students who used WebCT in a social work course; found that all of the respondents consider that the online course materials are beneficial to their overall learning experience.…”

“…Only very few students of group 1 (traditional technique) managed to improve their tracing ability, and it is likely that the improvement of the other two groups was an effect of e-learning applications. Students generally have a positive attitude to e-learning methodologies (17,18), and e-learning programs that are simple to use are generally better accepted by learners compared to more complex teaching methods (13). The results of our investigation confirm these findings.…”

“…Although several authors have investigated computer literacy and Internet use, almost all of these studies were published prior to 2007. As noted by Brumini et al in their recent publication which looked at Croatian dental students and their attitudes towards e-learning, the past decade has seen rapid developments in ICT and this has carried with it important implications for education (13). No study of this type regarding New Zealand dental students has, as yet, been published.…”
