Attitudinal Influences on Transfer of Training: A Systematic Literature Review

Abstract: Trainings have not been well received in that newly acquired knowledge and skills cannot be fully transferred to trainees' workplaces following their participation in training programs. Among the identified transfer determinants, attitude is often neglected or marginalized in existing transfer of training research. We identified this gap and provided a holistic perspective of attitudinal influences on transfer of tra… Show more

“…Webinar atmosphere was more frequently mentioned in positive stories ( n = 27) than in negative ones ( n = 8). An analysis of the codes provides a perspective on broad possibilities of affective states that the webinar creates and that might be used for further evaluation of affective reactions to trainings and webinars alike, as this factor was treated as a singular element, regardless of the training activity type, in recent research (Mansour et al, 2017; Yang et al, 2020; Yang & Watson, 2020). Interestingly, among negative stories, the participants mentioned also a situation when the atmosphere gets too personal.…”

“…In the research questionnaire, apart from demographic data, each of the participants responded to two questions, designed on the basis of the work of previous MEBS research applications (Mansour et al, 2017; Yang et al, 2020; Yang & Watson, 2020). Question 1 : Imagine your friend has just finished a live online session in Online Training Festival and they are totally disappointed, demotivated and unhappy about it.…”

“…Because of the difficulties associated with assessing training effectiveness, transferred behavior has not been frequently evaluated to assess learning effectiveness (Kirkpatrick and Kirkpatrick, 2006;Nik Nazli and Sheikh Khairudin, 2018). Nickerson et al (2019), Xue et al (2021), Yang and Watson (2022), Yang et al (2020). Also, few studies have been conducted to examine the integrated constructs of learner characteristics, instructional factors and organizational environment.…”

“…People's attitudes vary in how they manage themselves during a crisis. People's fears (affective) and beliefs (cognitive) influence their actions to protect themselves (behavior) and further strength their attitudes toward the crisis, such as COVID-19 (Yang & Watson, 2021). It is not necessary to sacrifice performance for production; leaders with data can make informed choices and support a workplace culture that encourages positive work outputs and behaviors.…”
