The two first parts are of theoretical interest: AD is defined as a part of the audiovisual text and as a form of intersemiotic translation. Once this is set up, we concentrate on the concept of translation techniques (Molina and Hurtado, 2002) and adapt them to audio description to provide scholars and students with a functional classification of AD techniques (ADT), which can be used for descriptive studies of audio d… Show more

“…Not only limited to space differences, but the existence of Visual Reader, which had the role of replacing Audio Description (AD) is also very influential in providing additional information about the films they watch. Audio description is an assistive service consisting of a set of techniques and abilities, whose main objective is to compensate for the lack of perception of the visual component in any audio-visual message, by providing suitable sound information which translates or explains, in such a way that the visually impaired perceive the message as a harmonious work which is as similar as possible to that which is perceived by the sighted (Bardini, 2020b).…”

“…De acordo com Bardini (2020), a AD é "uma forma de acessibilidade de mídias que transforma elementos visuais em um texto verbal para proporcionar o acesso ao público cego ou com deficiência visual". Pode ser utilizada em qualquer tipo de material visual, como filmes, espetáculos de teatro, dança ou shows, eventos esportivos, concertos, obras de artes, e até mesmo locais, através das orientações direcionais.…”

“…AD has been defined as an intermodal audiovisual translation service that primarily helps people with sight loss along with other secondary audiences understand and enjoy an original audiovisual product by translating the visual and aural elements otherwise inaccessible into a verbal commentary (Holsanova 2022;Vercauteren 2022). Several aspects of AD have been and continue to be studied such as the production process (Benecke 2004;Holland 2009;Bardini 2020), the reception of AD (Ramos 2015;Walczak and Fryer 2017), the combination of AD with other services (Braun and Orero 2010) and, importantly for the purposes of our paper, content selection (Vercauteren 2012;Remael, Reviers and Vercauteren 2015), AD style (Orero and Vilaró 2012;Bardini 2017) and the collaboration of creators and audio describers (Udo and Fels 2009;Udo and Fels 2010a;).…”
