“…Carbon fibers (CF) are lightweight reinforcing fibers with high specific strength and stiffness but also with high energy demand during the production stage. Due to their excellent properties, they are widely used in demanding applications, such as in the aeronautic sector [ 1 , 2 ], the automotive industry [ 3 , 4 ], and construction [ 5 , 6 ], with both thermoset and thermoplastic matrices. Widespread production and use of CF inevitably leads to high amounts of CF composite waste.…”

“…Epoxy resin (EP), as an important resin matrix, has been widely used in coatings, 1,2 electrical insulation, 3,4 adhesives [5][6][7] and composites [8][9][10] industries for its good mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and chemical resistance, excellent electrical properties, low shrinkage and excellent bonding properties. [11][12][13] Vacuum assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) is widely used to manufacture large and EP-based composite materials with low cost and high efficiency. [14][15][16][17] In the meantime, curing agent is a critical component for shortening the curing speed of EP in a few minutes, which could improve the productivity.…”

“…7,8 As a result, several attempts have been undertaken to increase the epoxy resin's strength. 9 The major drawback of epoxy resins is that in the cured state they are brittle materials having fracture energies some of two magnitude lower than that of engineering thermoplastics and three magnitude lower than that of metal. 10 This inherent brittleness cause the poor damage tolerance to impact of the composites made from epoxy resin and poor peeling and shear strength of epoxy based matrices.…”
