Abstract

Letters to the editor* Unilateral IGF-1 injection for mandibular asymmetry I n an excellent experimental research article in the December 2017 issue, an alternate treatment approach for mandibular asymmetry was discussed in a comprehensive way (Fukaya S, Kanzaki H, Miyamoto Y, Yamaguchi Y, Nakamura Y. Possible alternative treatment for mandibular asymmetry by local unilateral IGF-1 injection into the mandibular condylar cavity: Experimental study in mice. Am J Orthod Dentofacial Orthop 2017;152:820-9). We would, however, like to bring attention to 1 important aspect of the study: the dose of IGF-1 was kept at 20 ml, whereas in a previous study by Suzuki et al, 1 a higher dose of 50 ml was used. Was a dosage calculation method for IGF-1 used in the study? Moreover, a more detailed discussion about the number of mice used for preparation of serial undecalcified frozen sections that in turn were used for histomorphometery, immunohistochemistry, and RT-PCR analysis would be informative and highly appreciated.
