Autism in the Courtroom

Abstract

There has been a dramatic increase in autism‐related litigation that is largely attributable to the civil rights movement and the equally dramatic reported increase in the incidence of autism in the general population. While the bulk of autism‐related litigation will continue to arise out of situations where parents are at odds with a school district as to what constitutes an appropriate and effective educational program, the next decade is likely to be marked by an expansion into new areas such as housing, employment, and opportunities for higher education.
