Automated sample treatment with the injection of large sample volumes for the determination of contaminants and metabolites in urine

Abstract: This work reports the development of a simple and automated method for the quantitative determination of several contaminants (triazine, phenylurea, and phenoxyacid herbicides; carbamate insecticides and industrial chemicals) and their metabolites in human urine with a simplified sample treatment. The method is based on the online coupling of an extraction column with RP LC separation-UV detection; this coupling enabled fast online cleanup of the urine samples, efficiently eliminating matrix components and pro… Show more

“…Blood, urine, breast milk, hair, and meconium are the most used specimens for biomonitoring. The development of automated offline and online methods increases the demand for high-throughput analysis in biomonitoring programs (Rodríguez-Gonzalo et al, 2010). The scientific community is very much aware of the toxic effect of endosulfan, therefore, this article highlights the toxic effect of endosulfan in the next section that is used in agriculture frequently with special emphasis on its biomonitoring in humans which is very essential to protect farmers and other fauna from the hazardous effect of endosulfan.…”

“…It was also the first commercially produced RAM to be introduced into the market (LiChrospher ADS by Merck, Darmstadt, Germany). Through the years, ADS RAM have been used in different situations, such as analysis of drug compounds from plasma [48,62], serum [63,64], bronchial fluids [65], cell lysates [48], hepatocyte extracts, and urine [62,[65][66][67][68][69][70].…”

“…Large-volume injection liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry has been used for the determination of contaminants and metabolites in urine 32 , as well as illicit drugs 6, 33 , and steroids 11 , in municipal wastewater influent. Large-volume injection was chosen to minimize sample preparation, and to maximize sensitivity needed for detection and quantification.…”
