Automated smart hydroponics system using internet of things

Abstract: This paper presents a design and implementation of an automated smart hydroponics system using internet of things. The challenges to be solved with this system are the increasing food demand in the world, the need of market of new sustainable method of farming using the Internet of Things. The design was implemented using NodeMcu, Node Red, MQTT and sensors that were chosen during component selection based on required parameters and sending it to the cloud to monitor and be processed. “…In the future, we can derive new ideas to develop our work such as smart urban farming service concept based on an open IoT platform [32], [33]. Using open source IoT platform such as (NodeMcu, Node Red, and message queue telemetry transport (MQTT)) [34]. As an automatic tool for monitoring the availability of water that can help the farmer to monitor the farm-field [35].…”

“…When using hydroponics to grow crops daily maintenance can be troublesome like maintaining temperature, pH, parts per million (PPM) to meet the crop needs. As efficient resource can be improved by using an internet of things (IoT) to do some automation to the hydroponics system [17], [18], [19]. There are many hydroponic automations that has been published.…”
